Data Sources

Every weakness, resistance and immunity on TypeWeakness comes from a single structured dataset, so the same numbers appear on every page. Here is where that data comes from and how we check it.

Type effectiveness data

The type chart and all weakness, resistance and immunity values on this site model the base type rules of modern main-series Pokémon games. The chart has been stable since Generation VI (X & Y) and is current through Generation IX (Scarlet & Violet) and Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Our machine-readable copy of the 18×18 chart comes from the community-run, open-source PokeAPI dataset. At build time every one of the 324 cells is compared against a separately encoded table checked type-by-type against Pokémon Database's type pages; a mismatch stops the build.

Pokémon data

Each Pokémon's typing, and therefore its weaknesses and resistances, is taken from in-game Pokédex data via PokeAPI, covering all 1025 species plus alternate forms (regional forms and Mega Evolutions) whose typing differs. Weaknesses are then calculated by multiplying the two types together — the same way the games do it. We cross-check results against these independent references:

For example, calculating Charizard (Fire/Flying) from the chart gives Rock 4×; Water and Electric 2×; Fire, Fighting, Steel and Fairy ½×; Grass and Bug ¼×; and Ground 0×. The listed weakness types are consistent with the official Pokédex; the detailed multipliers come from applying the two type columns.

What is not included

Type matchups can be changed in battle by abilities (such as Levitate or Flash Fire), held items, Terastallization, field effects and moves with special effectiveness rules such as Freeze-Dry and Flying Press. Our pages show the base chart for the 18 regular types before those effects. The special Stellar type, Pokémon GO and the Pokémon Trading Card Game use rules outside this matrix and are not covered here.
